Description
This piece has quite a history. Some sources say it started as a French folk tune (Ponthus et Sidoine), was used for an English hymn (God of Mercy and Compassion), which in turn was used i.e. the melody was adapted for use as a Lebanese hymn – “Wa Habibi” – with new Arabic lyrics, sung on Good Friday (commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus). The Arabic hymn became very well-known in the version by the famous Lebanese singer Fairouz.
This is my attempt to do the piece justice as a guitar instrumental.
