Description
“Silent Night” (German: “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht”) is one of THE most popular Christmas carols, written by the Austrian composer Franz Xaver Gruber (1787–1863).
I wanted to see if I could do a solo jazzy fingerstyle version, and this is what came out. It stands alone as a guitar solo, but then I got to thinking that a violin could be a nice addition, so I wrote a fiddle part. This is a new audio & video recording, with the marvellous Liv Vester Larsen from Denmark:
The original audio recording is to be found on the Kelpie CD “Schneetreiben” (2017 – Westpark Music: CD 87346), where the fiddle part was played in by Irish fiddle star Zoë Conway. That CD is a collection of German Christmas Carols arranged in Celtic-Scandinavian fashion by me and my wonderful partner in Kelpie, Kerstin Blodig, who is not only a great guitarist/multi-instrumentalist but also a prize-winning singer. I can recommend it :-). You can check it out here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mQNCt0RKLiolmvKmSgU3KTR5ALH48tQ44
